“Lara, you can’t draw that conclusion,” Gavin said. “There is no evidence that your husband tried to kill you. That being said, I do think we should look into him a bit more.”

“I agree with Gavin,” I said. “Why don’t you guys check out her father-in-law’s attic to see if maybe there is a vampire slayer kit there—or perhaps other photo albums.”

“It’s been over a month since I died. I’m not sure what James has done with the place. The house could be sold by now for all I know.”

That could be a problem. “It won’t take long to look, right?”

“No. We’ll check it out. Be back in a flash,” Lara said.

And then they were gone. “Darn, I forgot to ask about the nail tech.”

“I think we’ll have more success taking another look at the album that Cameron has,” Gavin said.

I stilled. “We have to be careful not to tell anyone where we saw those pictures, or Cameron might be in danger—assuming that was what caused someone to run Lara off the road in the first place.” I hissed in a breath. “Did I tell Stella that Lara’s brother had the album?”

“I don’t recall.” Gavin stood and paced the small room. “What do you think of asking Hugo to stand watch over him? I think Cameron needs protection a lot more than those two teenagers do.”

“I agree, but I won’t do it if Glinda really needs him.”

“She has Genevieve. Do they really need two gargoyle shifters to keep watch?”

I didn’t know what their father or fathers thought they were doing. “Let me ask her.”

I called Glinda again via video chat, and she answered right away.

“What’s wrong?” Glinda asked.

I explained that Cameron might be in danger. “Could you possibly spare Hugo to watch over him?”

“Sure, no problem. The kids’ dad thinks they are into some bad stuff, but Genevieve can handle it. Of course, we’ll call the sheriff if we find out they are doing anything illegal.”

“Great.” I gave her the address of the hotel. “I hope Hugo can find it.”

Glinda stilled. “Me too. Uh-oh. How will you be able to communicate with him?”

“Darn. I forgot he can’t talk.” Iggy was on the sofa next to Glinda. “Do you think you can lend us Iggy for a couple of days?”

Iggy waddled over. “Just so you know, I now charge for my services.”

I almost cracked up. “What kind of compensation are you looking for, young man?”

“A flower a day for a month.”

It was what Iggy loved to eat. “Deal.”

He looked over at Glinda. “Do you know where my warm clothes are?”

“They are in my closet back at the apartment.”

“Chop, chop. Go get them.”

Glinda looked over at me. “I think I’ll send Genevieve instead. Iggy doesn’t deserve to go.” She winked.

“I agree. Talking back to you and demanding things is unacceptable behavior.”

He dropped onto his stomach. “Fine. I’m sorry. Would you please find my clothes for me—and my heating pad?”

Glinda smiled. “That’s better. Let me check with Genevieve first to see if she’s okay with letting Hugo go off on his own.
